We would like to report on the success of two of our best players Jane Green, and Lynn Hunt, both who came up through the youth program. It was in  a BWTA (British Women's Tennis Association) competition 2004 (formerly known as Tate & Lyle Ladies Doubles).  There are 16 one-day tournaments played all round the country from May to September.  The winner of each one-day tournament then goes forward to a 'Masters' tournament at Wimbledon played over a weekend in early November.

The format of the one day tournament is to play round robin groups, from which you progress to a knockout stage of 8 pairs. There were 21 pairs, so 3 groups of 5 pairs, playing nine games against each other using a sliding handicap system and one group of 6 pairs playing 7 games.  Lynne and Jane won 8-1, 7-2, 6-3 and 6-3 to win their group.

They then went on to win the quarter final 5-0, semi final 5-2 and final 6-4

Our congratulations on a fine performance.

We have just had a most successful Junior Tennis Tournament - courtesy of Peter Grabaskey.
I only really got involved on the last day when I umpired two matches and watched several others.
The tennis standard was extremely high -every point was fiercely contested - and
the level of skill shown was considerably higher than last year.
It was a pity that not more members came to watch.
