FOR PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS 2011 - 2012

,

The Club was founded in 1954 and moved to its present site, which is leased from Mole Valley District Council, in 1964.  It is a friendly and sociable members club, run on a voluntary basis.

There are six macadam hard courts, four of which have floodlights.  The Club has a very modern clubhouse with good facilities and it is hoped to add a licence for serving alcohol in the near future.

We welcome all levels of players. There are roll-up and play club sessions Tuesday 9am, Wednesday 9am, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7pm, Saturday 2pm and Sunday 9am. The sessions on Tuesday morning and evening and Saturday afternoon after 3.30pm are open to all new full members. Tuesday evening sessions are open to everybody. We do have a grading system in place to try and ensure that the tennis remains enjoyable for all so you will have to be of a certain standard to join some of the club sessions, in general Andy our coach will advise, you do not have to take lessons for this.

The club runs several men’s, ladies and mixed teams, which compete in the local leagues.

There is a strong junior section, which is very friendly and active. It has its own club night on Friday evenings (6pm ‘til 7.30pm) Saturday mornings in the winter (see junior page) which is supervised by the coach. Juniors have access to year round coaching, after school, at weekends and during holidays as well as two weekend match play events held in the summer. There is a junior "closed" tournament every year which is run between June and September culminating in a Finals Day in mid September with BBQ. There are also junior teams, which compete at various ages in local leagues.

The Club has a full time LTA licensed coach, Andrew Tee. To enquire after the various children's or adult lessons/groups for members and non members, please contact him direct. (07971 151411).

If you would like to know more about the Club please contact the Membership Secretary, Judi Smowton
01306 500356 , e-mail judi@leatherheadtennisclub.co.uk    However, you may prefer to come to the Club on any Tuesday evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm with your tennis kit (recognised tennis apparel, white soled sports shoes, and track suits are acceptable) and the coach will endeavour to get you a game at your level.  Doubles is always played at club sessions and the format encourages mixing-in enabling new members to meet other people.

The Club doesn’t have a waiting list at the moment, but real beginners are expected to take some lessons with ( Andy 07971 151411) practice and reach a reasonable standard before joining in club sessions.
